Parents
The Air Force can offer your child world-class training, a rewarding career and the opportunity to serve their country. The first step on this journey is Recruit Training held at RNZAF Base Woodbourne near Blenheim. It’s a challenging course and your support and encouragement will help them make the most of this opportunity.
// SUPPORTING YOUR SON OR DAUGHTER
The first few weeks of Recruit Training are likely to be a culture shock for your son or daughter. It’s a good idea to write to them and send parcels of goodies as this boosts morale. Recruits may be tired or homesick when they call home, so encourage and support them. Please remember that recruits have limited access to cell phones on the course so don’t expect a phone call every day.
// WHAT THEY NEED TO TAKE
On arrival at RNZAF Base Woodbourne, your son or daughter will be issued with a comprehensive scale of service kit (uniform and equipment) free of charge. Recruits are advised to take with them the additional items listed in the Recruit Booklet (available from your local Recruitment Office).
// GRADUATION PARADE
A Graduation Parade is held at the conclusion of each Recruit Course. A Senior Officer will review the Parade and present trophies to cadets for outstanding achievement in academic and practical fields. You are welcome to attend your son or daughter’s Graduation Parade. It will be held on the last Thursday of the course and starts at 1300 hours (1.00 pm). All attendees are asked to be seated by 1230 hours (12.30 pm).
