Description of Video

If you think being a PTI in the RNZAF is just about sport and games-think again. You will be involved across a range of duties such as military personnel training, adventure programmes, survival training and physical training. The expectations are always high in keeping the air force fighting fit, both mentally and physically. Your first challenge to becoming a PTI will be selection...

Selection assesses you in many ways. Your personal qualities, attitude, fitness, teamwork, dress and bearing are all under scrutiny. It is your opportunity to put your best foot forward and make the right impression to the selectors. You will be thrown into a whole different world for several days but if you are what the RNZAF are looking for your hard work will pay off.

The next challenge is Primary Trade Training. This is where you will make friends for life and be thoroughly trained to serve as a PTI. You are expected to run or "double" everywhere... . Everywhere!

At the Joint Services PE & RT School you train with Army and Navy personnel also striving to be PTI's. The days are action packed with cleaning of the gym, inspections, class room work, physical classes and study in barracks.

The standards are high but the rewards are worth it. In the PTI trade we believe in "working hard and playing hard". And if at the end of the course you have proven yourself you will graduate as an RNZAF PTI. From then on you will go to work at an RNZAF Base and perfect the skills you have learned. Life as a PTI is full of excitement, variation and challenges.

You are responsible for taking recruit PT classes and trainees undergoing trade training. You will organise and referee sport & recreation afternoons. You conduct fitness testing for base personnel. You will take personal fitness programmes working one on one with people to develop their fitness.
You get your hands dirty presenting the gym to a high standard. There is even a bit of computer work to do, writing lesson plans and reporting on trainee's performances in their fitness standards, personal qualities and discipline.

The PTI role is hugely important in the RNZAF. PTI's encourage healthy lifestyle habits, competition, camaraderie, and morale. If you want to be part of our team, then STEP UP!
