The medical team is a vital part of the Air Force. As a Medic you’ll be responsible for all aspects of medical care - on the ground and in the air. It’s a demanding role, and you’ll need to be tough and able to keep a cool head in stressful situations.

Salary after one year:
Remuneration on enlistment $33,256. This is the minimum remuneration you will be paid from day one. Your remuneration will increase upon graduation of recruit course to $40,869 and will increase on promotion and seniority.

Qualifications:
A minimum of 12 NCEA Level 2 credits in English, Mathematics and a Science subject.
Nationality:
Applicants must be a NZ citizen (some exceptions apply).
// FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Medic, you will be posted to a base medical unit where you will help with daily duties including treating personnel with illness or injury, medical administration, minor surgery and medical cover for base sports events. As you gain medical knowledge and experience, you will help supervise and teach more junior medics and be involved in taking first aid courses.
You will provide medical support for field exercises and be ready to provide emergency medical care in the event of an incident on the ground or in the air. Your role will also include operational duties, supporting New Zealand Defence Force missions, principally by helping maintain optimum health among deployed personnel. You may also be involved in humanitarian aid such as cyclone relief or the medical evacuation of personnel from abroad back to New Zealand.

// TRAINING
After 12 weeks basic military training at RNZAF Base Woodbourne, you’ll undergo a 14-week Junior Medical Course at the Joint Services Health School at Burnham Military Camp. The course is an introduction to emergency care, transportation and evacuation of casualties, basic patient care procedures and environmental health.
The 14-week Intermediate Medical Course is also held at Burnham and provides further instruction on patient care procedures. You’ll then complete 10 weeks of civilian hospital training and five weeks of civilian ambulance training. You’ll have further training opportunities as a qualified Medic, including a two-year diploma in military medicine, which will see you on your way to becoming a senior Medic.
