Salary after one year: On commencement of IOTC a minimum of $45,894, however this may be increased depending on your qualifications and previous work experience. Qualifications: Level 5 Diploma with subjects relevant to construction, property management and/or equivalent work history in facilities management.

// FULL JOB DESCRIPTION

As a Works Officer, you are a commissioned specialist military officer, responsible for maintaining RNZAF land, buildings and infrastructure. As an officer, you’ll be required to develop and discharge military command and leadership duties, in addition to providing specialist services to the Air Force.

These specialist areas include capital works, maintenance and real estate. You’ll also be responsible for the application of codes and standards to RNZAF construction and facility operation and the long-term development planning necessary to allow RNZAF facilities to meet future needs.

You will never get bored with the diverse roles available as an Air Force Works Officer. One day you could be working within the confines of your home base; the next you could be deployed elsewhere in New Zealand to run and or plan a variety of exciting projects.

// TRAINING

You’ll start your Air Force career with 21 weeks Initial Officer Training at RNZAF Base Woodbourne. You’ll also be required to complete a two-week Flight Commanders Course to continue your training in command, leadership and management.

To become a Flight Commander, all officers are required to complete further courses covering Service writing, staff skills and professional military education before being eligible for promotion beyond Flight Lieutenant. As your career progresses, you may also have the opportunity to attend staff courses at the RNZAF Command and Staff College at Trentham Military Camp.
