// FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
The Logistics Branch is one of the principal ‘think tanks’ of the RNZAF. There is a diverse range of duties including operations, logistics planning and support, supply chain and contract management, air movements and freight distribution, management of vehicle fleets and distribution of aviation fuel. As well as problem-solving and overseeing teams of personnel, you’ll be working with sophisticated accounting systems and inventory management systems that rival any modern business.
The Air Force makes extensive use of commercial partnerships with external industry. Therefore, contracting and contract management are important aspects of your role. In addition, you may be required to support aircraft operations both here and overseas. As an Officer, you’ll also be expected to undertake the full range of duties associated with military service.
// JOB BENEFITS
You will never get bored with the diverse roles available as a Supply Officer. One day you could be working with the Air Force’s Inventory Management system, SAP; the next you could be deployed overseas and responsible for planning the cargo to load on an aircraft.
// TRAINING
First you’ll do 21 weeks of Initial Officer Training at RNZAF Base Woodbourne. You’ll then complete Logistics Induction Training, enabling you to discharge the basic duties of a junior Supply Officer. This training is conducted in the workplace by correspondence.
After further on-the-job experience, you’ll complete a six-week Logistics Management Course – a full-time residential course covering topics ranging from financial management systems to acquisition and capability planning systems. As well as your logistics management training, you’ll be required to complete a Flight Commanders Course. Some Logistics Supply Officers will have the opportunity to undertake postgraduate training at an overseas university.
