Salary after one year:
On commencement of IOTC a minimum of $45,894, however this may be increased depending on your qualifications and previous work experience. // FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
Your role as a CIS Officer will see you designing, deploying and managing Communication and Information Systems using sophisticated technology and equipment.
You’ll be expected to exercise leadership and command over highly motivated and skilled CIS personnel at home and also when engaged in NZDF and multi-national coalition duties all over the world. When you’re more experienced, you may be employed to fill specialist positions on either the Joint Force or Defence Headquarters staff.

// TRAINING
After 21 weeks’ Initial Officer Training at RNZAF Base Woodbourne, you’ll gain on-the-job experience at CIS units in New Zealand before attending a nine week CIS Officers’ Course covering NZDF CIS organisation, CIS planning and deployment, radio frequency spectrum management, communications security, and a range of military and general communications and information technology. Your training will then be put to the test in a planning and command exercise with junior CIS personnel. After initial CIS training, you will attend various specialised courses on a range of CIS, communications security and advanced system technologies. These courses are conducted in New Zealand and overseas. As well as your CIS training, you’ll be required to complete a Flight Commanders’ Course and other promotional courses to prepare you for the duties of higher ranks.
// JOB REQUIREMENTS
You must be 17 years or older. You need a minimum of a Level 5 diploma in electronics, computer technology or telecommunications. A degree in computer sciences, IT, telecommunications or other related subjects, or an industry-recognised qualification will give you a competitive advantage. Proven practical experience in IT or telecommunications management is preferred.
