// FULL JOB DESCRIPTION
As a Boeing 757 Flight Steward, you’ll be an integral member of the Air Force’s primary strategic air transport asset, the Boeing 757. You will help manage the 757 cabin, amenities and passengers before, during and after flights. Being ready and able to take action in the event of an in-flight or on-ground emergency is an important aspect of your role.
As you become more experienced, you will be given greater responsibilities in managing personnel, allowances and equipment. As a senior Flight Steward you’ll be required to perform military command and leadership duties, and be responsible for personnel under your command. You may also train as a Flight Steward Instructor.
// JOB BENEFITS
This role will see you working at home and abroad. You will fly within New Zealand, and to a variety of countries overseas. Commonly visited places are Australia, the Pacific Islands, South East Asia and the Middle East. You could be flying an aircraft full of Army passengers and freight one week, and the Prime Minister and entourage the next! These adventures will be experienced within a close knit crew environment with people you know well.
// TRAINING
Your career begins with 12 weeks basic military training at RNZAF Base Woodbourne followed by a four-week Corporal Qualifying Course to confirm your rank as Acting Corporal. You’ll then attend an eight-week Combined Non-Commissioned Officer Aircrew Course at RNZAF Base Ohakea covering everything from meteorology to parachuting.
After graduating, you’ll be posted to RNZAF Base Auckland, where our fleet of Boeing 757 aircraft is operated from. This is also where you’ll complete your Flight Steward training. You’ll undergo a full-time four-week ground course before taking to the skies! This part of the training includes 50 hours of flying, including five national and three international flights.
