Overseas Applicants


Are you looking at relocating to New Zealand from Australia, Canada, the United Kingdom or the United States of America? And do you have current or previous Military experience?
The NZDF can help those whose are joining from overseas in relocating to New Zealand and the transition into life here.

With new opportunities for your career as well as deployments to places that you would not normally have the opportunity to go, you will experience new adventures with the NZDF. So we are looking for the right people for the NZDF of tomorrow to provide leadership in a wide range of complex and challenging situations – Are you one of those people?

To be eligible for overseas enlistment you must have previous or current military service from one of the following countries:

  • United Kingdom

  • United States of America

  • Canada

  • Australia

If you are an overseas applicant, to be eligible to apply, you must have been a citizen of one of the countries listed above for a minimum of 10 years.


New Zealand Army

Currently the New Zealand Army is targeting the following trades and rank levels for overseas enlistment:

  • Ammunition Technician - Private to Staff Sergeant

  • Armourer - Private to Staff Sergeant

  • Chef - Private to Sergeant

  • Crewman - Private to Warrant Officer Class 2

  • Driver Army Logistics Regiment - Private to Warrant Officer Class 2

  • Electrical Fitter - Lance Corporal to Sergeant

  • Electronics Technician - Lance Corporal to Warrant Officer Class 2

  • Electronic Warfare Operator - Lance Corporal to Staff Sergeant

  • Gunner - Private to Staff Sergeant

  • Information Systems Operator - Private to Staff Sergeant

  • Maintenance Fitter - Lance Corporal to Corporal

  • Medic - Lance Corporal to Warrant Officer Class 1

  • Movement Operator - Staff Sergeant

  • Military Police - Lance Corporal to Corporal

  • Rifleman - Private to Corporal

  • Systems Engineer - Lance Corporal to Sergeant

  • SAS Trooper - Lance Corporal to Corporal

  • Vehicle Mechanic - Lance Corporal to Staff Sergeant


Royal New Zealand Navy

Currently the RNZN is targeting the following trades and rank levels for overseas enlistment:

Operation Branch:
  • Pilot Observer 

  • Pilot

  • Seaman Officer Principal Warfare Officer - Lieutenant

  • Seaman Officer Hydrographer - Lieutenant 

  • Leading Communications Operator

  • Leading Combat Seaman Specialist

  • Operational Divers

  • Hydrographic Survey Technicians

Technical Branch:
  • Marine Engineering Officer Charge qualified

  • Weapons Engineering Officer - Lieutenant

  • Petty Officer Marine Technician (Electrical): UK equivalent is POET(ME)ART and they must have PQE and EOOW 2

  • Warrant Officer Marine Technician ART with control room tickets/Charge.

Please note that the RNZAF is currently not recruiting from Overseas and this is on hold until 2013.
