Minimum Entry Requirements


The requirements for full-time trades in Army, Navy and Air Force follow.

Army Generic Requirements

To qualify you will need to meet the minimum basic requirements listed below, as well as specific requirements for your chosen trade. In order to be considered a more competitive applicant, we recommend exceeding these requirements where possible.

You must:

  • Be a minimum of 17 years of age*

  • Have completed at least three years of secondary school education

  • Be medically fit for service

  • Be of good character – assessed by a study of your testimonials and a police record check

  • Be a New Zealand citizen or have permanent residency and have lived in New Zealand for a minimum of five years

A degree with preference of Politics, International Relations, Defence and Strategic Studies, Information Systems/Technology or Remote Sensing.
